Eligibility

  Legislation on Polish citizenship is based on the right of blood (ius sanguinis). This means that the child of parents of whom at least one is a Polish citizen at the time the child's birth acquires Polish citizenship uder the law. The place of birth is not important.

Till 18.01.1951 child born of a wedlock acquired the citizenship of the father and illegitmate child the citizenship of the mother. 
 

Thus many people who are descendants of Polish immigrants and today living in many other countries in the world have the right to Polish citizenship.
